Brother James Edward Brown–a man of faith, music, and boundless generosity–was called to Eternal Rest on Thursday, October 9, 2025. He was 81.

Born on September 1, 1944, in Decatur County, Georgia, James was the son of Mr. Edward Brown and Mrs. Luella Wilson Brown-Riles. He received his education in the public schools of Grady County, Georgia.

A Devoted Servant

Brother Brown confessed CHRIST as his SAVIOR at an early age and was baptized by the late Reverend B. W. Wilson at Mount Tabor Missionary Baptist Church. His beautiful voice was a gift he shared with the world as a devoted member of the gospel groups The Spiritual Echoes and Last Chance.

James was widely known for his gentle spirit, generous heart, and his willingness to help anyone in need. His kindness created a lasting impression on everyone he met. He held a deep love for his family, reserving an especially warm place in his heart for all the children.

Community and Culinary Spirit

A truly neighborly man, Brother Brown shared his talents by starting a community garden where his neighbors were welcomed to enjoy the fruits of his labor. He was also a passionate cook, and his most requested dishes were his famous ‘coon’ and chicken ‘pollo’. He dedicated 30 years of his life to his work at Proplex in Bainbridge, Georgia, where he ultimately retired.

Legacy of Family

In 1969, Brother James Brown was joined in Holy Matrimony to Ms. Rosie Corine McCarter, and from this union came one son, Aaron Brown. He was also previously married to Ms. Anna Joyce Bolden, and from this union came two daughters, LaShonda and LaVonda Bolden; together, they raised Fred and Tiffany Bolden.

Brother James Brown’s memory will be forever treasured by his son, Aaron Brown (Lataina) of Thomasville, Georgia; two daughters, LaShonda and LaVonda Bolden, both of Bainbridge, Georgia; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; his sisters, Emma Mitchell (Frank) of Whigham, Georgia, and Annie Joyce Douglas of Bainbridge, Georgia; his brothers: Gohneil Brown Sr. (Rudeen) of Bainbridge, Georgia, Hubert Brown, Lewis Brown, both of Whigham, Georgia, Charles Riles (Mary) of Cairo, Georgia, Gary Riles (Myra) of Bainbridge, Georgia, and Ernest Riles (Carol) of Ellenwood, Georgia; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and beloved friends.
