Larry Bernard “Frog” Wilson Sr. departed this life on Friday, July 4, 2025. Larry was preceded in death by his father Clarence Wilson, mother Naomi Darrisaw, his sisters Virginia Wilson and Christine Wilson, and his beloved son Curtis Wilson.
Born November 2, 1951, Larry lived a life full of purpose, faith and quiet strength. A man of deep conviction, he accepted CHRIST as his SAVIOR at an early age and rededicated his like to CHRIST before passing, reaffirming the foundation of CHRIST that guided him throughout his journey. From an early age, Larry was an also a gifted swimmer.
His childhood friend gave him the nickname “Frog”, because of his remarkable ability in the water; it was a nickname that stuck and became a cherished part of his identity throughout his life. He attended Hutto High School, where he made a name for himself as a star running back with the Hutto Tigers Football Team. His speed, determination and leadership left an impression on teammates and coaches. Off the field, Larry was admired for his humility and dedication, and he did not mine helping people.
Larry had a deep love for sports, race cars, and swimming, and found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He also had a natural talent for working with his hands, especially in the art of masonry. His work with bricks, blocks and stones was more than just a trade, it was a calling. Many of his masonry projects still stands today as a testament to his craftsmanship, dedication and pride in his work.
He is survived by his young sons Larry (Mae) Wilson Jr. of Orange Park, FL, and Amos Thornton of Phenix City, AL; his sister Gail (Wallace) Johnson of Bainbridge, GA; his brothers Albert Thomas, Gary Darrisaw, and Tyrone Murphy, all of Bainbridge, GA; his aunt Lillian Knight of Bainbridge, GA; great uncle and aunt, Jimmy and Grace Fitz of Jacksonville, NC. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many sorrowing friends.
