Brother Mickell Lee Godwin, age 61, entered into Eternal Rest on November 25, 2025, surrounded by the love of his siblings, nieces, and nephews. Born on July 30, 1964, in Donalsonville, Georgia, Mickell was the beloved son of the late Deacon Clifton Godwin Sr. and Mother Jeannette Godwin.
Mickell was a proud 1982 graduate of Early County High School. He accepted CHRIST at an early age and faithfully lived out his commitment to THE LORD throughout his life. As a dedicated member of Mt. Pisgah African Methodist Episcopal Church, he served with humility and purpose as an usher, secretary, and steward. His quiet strength, gentle spirit, and contagious smile brought comfort, warmth, and joy to everyone he encountered.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ralph E. Leggett, sister Janice G. Wilson, and nephew Farrantay Pollard.
Cherishing his memory are his devoted siblings: Clifton Godwin Jr., Venson (Marie) Godwin, Veronica (Otis) Forbes, Angela Godwin, all of Jakin, GA, Betty Taylor of Albany, GA, and Elza Ree (McKenzie) Jones of Donalsonville, GA; his sister-in-law, Evelyn Leggett; and brother-in-law, Elder Billy Wilson. He leaves a legacy of love to his eight nieces and nephews: Cheron Reynolds, Jennifer Godwin, Alegra Leggett, Andrea Godwin, Faythe Pollard, Antwon Reeves, Gabriel (Ciara) Wilson, and Amerie Hawkins. He is also cherished by his twelve great nieces and great nephews: Kennedi and Keion Covin, Jai’Keem and Ja’Mari Davidson, Ma’Kai and Remie Reeves, Kelahni and Kendell Pollard, and Ashtyn and Khloe Wilson. Mickell is also survived by his three aunts, A’Lean McDonald, Dianne (Edward) Howard, both of Bronx, NY, and Helen (Jeremiah) Jefferson of Tallahassee, FL; one uncle, Robert Robinson; and a host of cousins, extended family, church members, and friends who will forever hold him dear.
Mickell was known for his humility, compassion, and steady kindness. His contagious smile could brighten any room, and his gentle presence made others feel seen, valued, and at peace. He lived a life rooted in faith, service, and quiet grace–never seeking recognition, yet always offering help. His presence was gentle, but his impact was profound.
Though he has departed from this earthly home, the love he shared and the example he set will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew him. We give thanks for his life, honor his memory, and rejoice in knowing he is at peace in the arms of THE LORD.
