It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved matriarch Ruby Lee Harris, who departed this life on June 30, 2025, at the age of 79. She was born on November 27, 1945, in Bainbridge, Georgia, to her late parents Namion and Agnes Edwards.
Ruby made Fort Lauderdale, Florida, her home for many years, where she built a life rooted in faith, family and service. She was the cherished wife of Carlton Lee “Cal-le” Harris Sr. and a devoted mother to four children: Arthur Lee Harris, Carlton Lee Harris Jr., Nathaniel Harris (Patty) and Virginia Ann Harris.
Ruby was a proud grandmother to LaQuanda and Tony Parker, Patricia and Patkenya Wesley, Sean Young, Monique Hamilton, Letisha Harris, Trines’e and Roynesha McGee, Carlisha Harris, and Joshua Sanders; and a loving great grandmother to Michael Baccus, Trenya Huff, Kamorah Cooper, Ta’Mya Smith, Robert, Tra’Vontae and Sekani Harris, Amir Taffe, Christionna and Chrishonti Smith, Kahmarie, Aikema Mozie, Kaine and Ruby Rose Baccus, and soon-to-be born baby Skylar Brown. Her family was her pride and joy, and her grands and great grands were her prize possessions--her life. It’s nothing she wouldn’t have done for them, even if she had said “no” the first time.
Ruby is survived by her brother Rufus Edwards (Gwen) and her sisters Jeanette Pearson (Late Benjamin), Mary Simon (Late Roosevelt) and Brenda Kendrick (Late Calvin); she was preceded in death by her sisters Virginia Edwards and Georgia Mae “Hawk” Gibson. Ruby leaves behind a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, church family and dear friends.
Ruby dedicated part of her life to working at the Broward County School Board before transitioning to a long career in retail at K-Mart, where she eventually retired. Known for her nurturing spirit and incredible green thumb, Ruby found great joy in gardening—anything she touched flourished. She also loved cleaning, especially rearranging her home, and could often be found shopping with a keen eye for style and detail.
