Kregg Close began his career in the funeral business in 1993 with Guyton Brothers Funeral Home, which was started by D. D. Guyton and Eugene Guyton in 1947. in 1995, he moved to Atlanta, Ga. to attend Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service, during which time he worked at Kelly & Leak Funeral Home. After graduating mortuary school in 1998, Close returned to Bainbridge in 1999 and resumed working with Guyton Brothers. In 2003, he went into partnership with Todd Hunter and purchased Moore Funeral Home in Donalsonville, Ga. and Community Funeral Home in Blakely, Ga. while continuing to help Guyton Brothers until 2010 when the sole proprietor, Adolph Noble Sr., passed away. The business was leased after the death of Mr. Noble, ties were cut, and Kregg no longer worked with Guyton Brothers and continued his partnership at Moore Funeral Home and Community Funeral Home. In 2016, Close was called back to assist with Guyton Brothers when the business was taken over by Sonja Noble. After health issues, Mrs. Noble decided she would no longer continue the business and offered Close the opportunity to purchase it. Seeing the need for a transformation, Close decided to change the name of Guyton Brothers Funeral Home to Close Funeral Home in December of 2021.
Since 2015 Kregg Close has served on the Bainbridge City Council in the district where the former Guyton Brothers Funeral Home and now Close Funeral Home resides. The History runs deep and Close Funeral Home continues to carry on the legacy established by Guyton Brothers Funeral Home of serving families with dignity, honor and respect.
